Bellak's Goals Double Up Bates in First NESCAC Victory for Men's Soccer

Nick Bellak netted both goals for the Bantams, including the game-winner in the 86th minute.

HARTFORD, Conn. — In the Trinity College men's soccer team's first New England Small College Athletic Conference triumph, Nick Bellak (Amherst, Mass.) delivered a pair of goals in the 2-1 win at home against the visiting Bates College Bobcats on Saturday. Trinity improved to 2-4-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the league, while Bates fell to 2-6-0 and 0-5-0. The Bantams secured their first NESCAC win in 47 games, with a record of 0-43-4, and the last league victory was on October 11, 2017 in a 2-1 triumph over Wesleyan. The team remains on its own pitch with a 7 p.m midweek matchup against Western New England University on October 4.

Mauro Kalaora notched the first goal early for Bates off the pass from Harry Corman at the 14 minute mark, but four minutes later Bellak received the ball from senior captain James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) in front of the net for the equalizer and his first of the night. Jordan McCammon (Bedford, Texas) recovered the ball after two close shots by Jacob Loor (Houston, Texas) and Bellak before sending it back to the junior for the goal and the eventual game-winner.

"Nick Bellak had an impressive week with three goals in two games showing he's an offensive threat," assistant men's soccer coach Austin Farwell (first season)  said. "James Donaldson and Jordan McCammon both with assists today showing we can be dangerous with the ball at different areas of the field."

For his second career start, Nate Dyott earned his first win in the Navy & Gold and notched a trio of saves, as the second-year Bantam saved two shots before the goal by the visitors. Trinity's backfield stood tall alongside the Trinity goalkeeper as McCammon etched a defensive save in the 39th minute and the Bantam Defenders only allowed two total shots in the second half, with one on goal. The hosts outshot the Bobcats 16-10 led by Bellak with five.

"I think as a team we put together everything we had been working on this season to be able to get this win. Everyone from the starters to the bench helped make this win happen, Farwell continued. "Overall a great team win and we are looking forward to the next one."
