Volleyball Extends Win-Streak to Four After Sweeping Colby

HARTFORD, Conn. — Bella Caffuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Scarlett Jago (Allentown, Pa.) were a force to be reckoned with on the court for the Trinity College volleyball team as the Bantams swept the Colby College Mules (25-20, 25-19, 25-21) at home on Saturday. The Bantams improved 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Colby dropped to 6-5 and 3-2. Trinity returns to action on October 3 as it travels to Eastern Connecticut State University for a rescheduled match at 7 p.m.

Caffuzzi posted a team-leading 10 kills, while Jago notched 18 digs for the Navy & Gold. Trinity initiated the opening set with an 11-4 run topped off by a three-point serving run by Ava Boloyan (American Canyon, Calif.) and ignited by a two-point serving run by Jago. Colby narrowed the deficit to within five kills by Margaret McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) and Caffuzzi, followed by an attack error by the visitors allowed the Bantams to maintain their lead, 23-16.Ellie Gordon's (The Villages, Fla.) kill brought Trinity within set point, but three-straight points kept the Mules alive until an attack error halted their rally.

Trinity went on a 5-2 run before a bal handling error cut the gap to one, 5-4, and the Mules maintained a one-point deficit before eight-straight points by the Bantams padded the lead to 20-11. An attack error by the Mules initiated the run, followed by a seven-point scoring run with Jago at the helm and helped along with an ace and a kill by McCarthy. This time, a kill by Gordon clinched the set for the Bantams prior to an attack error by the visitors to line up the set point. The third set remained close but kills by Gordon, Caffuzzi, McCarthy andEva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) kept the Bantams ahead until Caffuzzi drilled the match-winning kill.
