HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College women's soccer team fell to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1-0, in the Bantams home opener on Tuesday. Trinity moved to 0-1 on the season, while the Engineers improved to 2-0-1. The team kicks off New England Small College Athletic Conference action on September 9 at Hamilton College.
Trinity had an opportunity to score early in the first half as
Elena Lindonen (Boxford, Mass.) sent goalkeeper Morgan Everett to her knees, but Meagan Rowlett was inches from the goal line for a defensive save at the 10 minute mark. In the net for the Navy & Gold,
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) denied a pair of MIT goals, while the back field blocked three shots in the opening half.
The scoreboard remained locked at zero apiece until Kaitlin Zareno connected with the back of the net off the quick passes from Natalie Barnouw and Meagan Rowlett in the 80th minute. The visitors outshot Trinity 12-10, while the Bantams had eight corner kick opportunities and MIT attempted three. Cournoyer notched six saves during the 90 minute stretch.
