HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Swimming and Diving team got caught in the ripples of the Wesleyan Swim Team falling to a team score of 163-124. The Bantams dropped to a 3-4 record on the season, while the Cardinals rose to a 1-5 record.
From the diving well, Bantams' Topher Fitzpatrick and Owen Schmidt took to the platform to compete against each other. Fitzpatrick dove first in the 1M with a score of 219.6, and in the 3M dive with a total score of 185.74. Sophomore Schmidt finished the 1M dive with a tallied score of 169.27 and second in the 3M dive 159.29.
Trinity began the meet within the lanes collecting four points in the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Matthew j. Brown, Quin Woods, Dillon McDermott and Atticus Chang placed second. Matthew Semelsberger collected first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:39.79, second place trailing by 22 seconds.
With a time of 28.11 graduate Quin Woods stole the show placing first in the 50-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Chang Atticus finished third just tenths of seconds behind Woods at 28.71.
Dillon McDermott took a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.34, just tenths of a second behind Wesleyan's Fred Li.
Woods collected nine more points for the Bantams with a first place finish in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:02.10. In the 200-yard IM Trinity's Matthew Brown finished first in 4:16.88, followed by Ben Lynch who placed fourth overall with a time of 4:40.30.
Patty Cadogan, Atticus, Ernesto Solana and Dillon McDermott finished the meet collecting silver in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 1:29.98.
The Bantams will be back in the water as they travel to Norton, Mass. on Saturday, January 20th at 2:00PM.
