Seven Sweeps Lift #1 Women's Squash Over #8 Cornell, 8-1

ITHACA, NY. – #1 Trinity College Women's Squash team overpowered the courts on Saturday against #8 Cornell as they closed out a 8-1 victory on the day. The Bantams rose to a 7-0 record on the season, while Cornell dropped to 6-4 overall.

Junior Janna El Ashmawy (2-11, 6-11, 4-11), senior Madeleine Hylland (6-11, 2-11, 8-11) and junior Malak Moustafa (5-11, 7-11, 4-11) swept their Cornell opponents in straight sets. The Bantams begin their day 3-0 denying any opponent a set point. 

Junior Lulu Palacios Benitez (4-11, 4-11, 5-11), sophomore Hannah Chukwu (3-11, 2-11, 4-11), and Kara Lincou (4-11, 9-11, 4-11) all continued the Bantams success on the court with three consecutive 3-0 wins. 

Nouran Youssef battled Cornell's Ananya Dabke, falling in the second set to a score of 18-16. Youssef did not waiver as she dominated her opponent in the final two sets to regain the lead in her match winning 3-1 with set scores of 4-11, 18-16, 2-11, 8-11. Noa Romero solidified the seventh 3-0 Bantam victory with set scores of 2-11, 4-11, 3-11. To close out the day junior Jana Safy fought in a five set battle against Cornell's Wen Li Lai, with the score tied 2-2 Safy lost her momentum and was bested 3-2 (8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4).

The Bantams are at Columbia University on Sunday, January 28th for a match at 1PM.
