HARTFORD, Conn. – The #8 Trinity College Men's Basketball team competed against Bowdoin College Saturday afternoon collecting their second New England Small College Athletic Conference win with a score of 93-54. Trinity improves to 15-0, 2-0 on the season, while the Polar Bears drop to a 6-9, 0-2 record.
The Bantams got on the board immediately after tip off going on a 7-0 run led by Jarrel Okorougo who netted five of the points. That was just the start for the sophomore as Okorougo went on to put up 15 points in the first half lifting the Bantams to a generous lead. At the seven minute mark the Polar Bears had a chance to take the lead after a three point play from Matteo Cervone tying up the score 17-17. The Bantams found their rhythm and took off to a twenty point lead after starters were swapped back into play. Bowdoin trailed Trinity at the half, 46-22.
Trinity continued to grow their lead in the second, with points scattered across the bench. First Year Paul Ippolito netted eight points and snagged two steals along with first year Tristan Davis who knocked down three foul shots and collected four boards. Jared Berry had a great offensive performance in the second as the graduate put up twelve of his seventeen points and handed out two assists for the Bantams. Trinity would collect the NESCAC win over Bowdoin College with a final score of 93-54.
The Bantams had three scorers in double figures, led by a game-high of 18 points from senior Ben Callahan-Gold and 17 points from both sophomore Jarrel Okorougo and Jared Berry. Dana Smith went on to collect four points, three boards and dished out 4 assists for a game-high.
The Bantams controlled the boards, 39-27, and outscored Colby 40-20 in the paint. Trinity converted 34-of-63 (54.0%) from the floor, including 11-of-22 (50.0%) from three-point range, 14-of-21 (66.7%) from the free throw line. The Polar Bears shot 19-of-50 (38.0%) from the field, 8-of-20 (40.0%) from three-point, and 8-of-15 (53.3%) from the charity stripe.
The Trinity Men's Basketball team will get a little bit of a break as they won't be back in action til Friday, January 12th as they host the Connecticut College Camels at 7PM in Oosting Gymnasium.
