#15 Men's Hockey Fends Off Middlebury, 3-2

HARTFORD, Conn. – The #15 Trinity College Men's Hockey team defeated visiting Middlebury College, 3-2, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 10-2 on the season and 6-0 in the NESCAC, while Middlebury dips to 1-5-2 in conference and 2-7-3 overall.

With 4:31 remaining in the first period, the Bantams broke a scoreless tie as junior Alexander Mozian collided with a Middlebury defensemen, causing a loose puck, which was scooped up by classmate Nicholas Siffringer, who played the puck back to Mozian at the far post for the finish, handing Trinity the 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

At the 15:40 mark of the second period, Trinity sophomore David Paluch kept the puck in the Panthers zone and swung the puck to senior Jax Murray behind the goal line. Murray eyed sophomore Spencer Korona on a break to the far post, and Murray connected with Korona, who tucked a shot past Middlebury senior goaltender Jake Horoho to put the Bantams ahead 2-0.

30 seconds later, the Panthers cut the deficit to 2-1 as sophomore defensemen John Burdett raced through the neutral zone towards the Bantams net, and then played a pass to the front of the net, where classmate Ben Boren delivered a quick redirect past Trinity sophomore Devon Bobak.

Early in the third period, the Bantams found the would-be game-winning goal as senior Ned Blachard dumped a puck behind the Mammoths net, where Mozian converged on the puck and wristed a shot to the back of the net from a tough angle to rebuild a 3-1 lead.

The Mammoths added a late goal on a power play as Paddy Mangan placed a shot into traffic in front of the net, which snuck by Bobak to set the score at the 3-2 final.

The Bantams edged the Panthers in the shot column, 22-17, and the face off battle, 33-28, during the game. Bobak recorded 15 saves in the win, while Horoho notched 19 saves for Middlebury.

The Bantams return to the ice with a NESCAC road trip to Colby College on Friday. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
