Last-Minute Goal Sends Bantams to Narrow 5-4 Loss Against Mules

WATERVILLE, ME. – A last-minute goal by Colby College propelled the Mules to a 5-4 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in a NESCAC matchup on Saturday morning at Bill Alfond Field. The loss dropped the Bantams to 0-8 in the NESCAC and 4-8 overall, while the Mules improved to 3-5 in conference play and 7-5 overall.

Trinity's Harper Siemens opened the scoring at 4:10 with an unassisted goal. The Bantams outshot the Mules 5-3 in the first quarter, and first-year goalie Sydney Korkosz made one save to keep the score at 1-0 as they entered the second quarter.

The second quarter saw back-to-back goals from Colby. Molly Mitchell scored their first goal off a penalty corner, followed by Catherine McNulty, who netted the lead-changer at 18:35. With just two minutes remaining in the half, the Bantams earned a penalty corner opportunity. After an initial shot from Izzy Deveney was denied by Mules goalie Leah Anderson, Fiona Murphy collected the rebound and scored the equalizer, making it 2-2 at halftime.

Trinity regained the lead at 35:33 with an unassisted goal from Nina Falkson, marking their first lead since the opening goal. The Bantams held their 3-2 advantage through the remainder of the third quarter, with a solid defensive effort limiting Colby to just one shot that missed the target.

In the fourth quarter, the Mules tied the game at 3-3 with an early goal. Tatum Stickney then scored her fourth goal of the season to put the Bantams back in front at 51:43. However, Colby responded with their fourth goal, leveling the score for the fourth time in the match. Stickney had a chance to regain the lead, but her shots were saved by Colby's second goalie, Harri Baker.

With just over a minute left, Bridget Everett scored for the Mules off a penalty corner, sealing the Bantams' fate at 5-4. Despite narrowing the gap to one goal, Trinity ultimately fell short. Colby outshot Trinity 27-16 overall, including an 18-14 advantage in shots on goal. Korkosz made twelve saves during the match.

The Bantams will host the Endicott College Gulls for a non-conference game on Wednesday, October 23rd, at 7 PM on Robin L. Sheppard Field.
