Bantams Rally Falls Short Against Gulls in 5-4 Nailbiter

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bantams mounted a fourth-quarter surge to close the gap to just one goal but ultimately fell to the visiting Endicott College Gulls, 5-4, on Wednesday night under the lights. With the loss, Trinity's record dropped to 4-9 overall (0-8 NESCAC), while Endicott improved to 12-4 (3-0 CNE).

Trinity struck first, with forward Nina Falkson scoring at the 6:55 mark by redirecting Izzy Deveney's drive into the cage off a penalty corner. The Gulls quickly responded, equalizing with an unassisted goal by Reagan Hicks just minutes later, leaving the score tied at 1-1 by the end of the first quarter.

Endicott then pulled ahead, scoring two more goals: Maddy Dengler netted an unassisted goal at 22:18, followed by a goal from Meg Arnette, assisted by Tori Swanson, at 24:48. Despite the scoreline, the Bantams led in shots during the second quarter, 6-5.

In the third quarter, Brooke DiBiase scored her second goal of the season after redirecting a blocked shot from teammate Tatum Stickney. However, the Gulls quickly answered, with Tori Swanson scoring their fourth goal at the 43rd minute, followed by Maddy Dengler's second goal just 47 seconds later. Trinity entered the fourth quarter trailing 5-2.

The Bantams rallied, as Claire Griffith tallied two quick goals. In the 50:10 minute, Murphy took a shot just outside the circle that was redirected by Griffith into the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 5-3. Just 1:35 later, Liette Letourneau found Griffith along the endline, where Griffith tapped in Trinity's fourth goal.

In a desperate final push, Maeve Hymovitz and Griffith both attempted to equalize with last-second shots, but both attempts went wide. Despite narrowing the gap, the Bantams fell short.

Endicott outshot Trinity 26-21 overall, holding a 19-11 advantage in shots on goal. Trinity's goalkeepers split time in the cage, with Sydney Korkosz recording six saves and Hayley Gable making seven. Izzy Deveney added her sixth defensive save of the season with a crucial stop in the fourth quarter to prevent the Gulls from extending their lead.

The Bantams will host Hamilton College on Saturday, October 26, for an 11 AM NESCAC showdown on Robin L. Sheppard Field. The game coincides with Trinity College's homecoming weekend and the Field Hockey team's Senior Day festivities, which will take place prior to the contest.
