Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Chris Kendrick

#4 Men's Hockey Downs Tufts, 6-3

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fourth-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team registered their first victory of the season, defeating visiting Tufts University, 6-3, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in conference, while Tufts sits at 1-1 in the NESCAC and 1-1 on the season.

The Bantams wasted little time finding their first goal of the day in the opening minute as first-year Weston Turner played a puck up the boards to senior Alexander Mozian, who spotted sophomore Connor Sedlak on a break to the net for the wrist shot finish past Tufts junior goaltender Gustave Bylin to give Trinity the 1-0 lead.

With 13:11 to play in the first period, Bylin went to play a puck behind the Tufts goal, but his pass was intercepted by junior David Paluch, who found sophomore Aidan D'Urso to front of the open net for the tap in to extend the Bantams lead to 2-0. In the 14th minute, the Jumbos cut the deficit to 2-1 as junior Max Resnick took a quick pass and tucked a wrap-around shot past Trinity junior goaltender Devon Bobak.

As the clock ticked under 12 minutes in the second period, the Bantams regained a two-goal lead as Sedlak grabbed an attempted clear, played the puck to senior Richard Boysen in front of the net, who delivered a touch pass to first-year Ty Broad, who potted his first collegiate goal to put Trinity on top 3-1. The Bantams forecheck continued to pressure the Jumbos, and 30 seconds later, junior Spencer Korona and sophomore James Barbour battled for puck in the corner and played it to Mozian, who deked wrister past Bylin to make it a 4-1 game.

With 8:43 remaining in the second period, the Jumbos cut the gap to 4-2 as senior Tyler Sedlak fired a shot past Bobak, off a drop pass from senior Harrison Bazianos. On a power-play less than two minutes later, Korona won a draw in the Jumbos zone, where Broad tipped a pass to Barbour, who drifted across the middle of the ice and sniped a short-side shot past Bylin to set the score at 5-2.

Following a power-play goal from Tyler Sedlak, the Bantams netted their final goal of the day as Kevin Mackay played a bouncing puck towards the net that snuck past Bylin to send Trinity to the 6-3 victory.

The Bantams edged the Jumbos in the shot column, 31-29, while Tufts won the faceoff battle, 41-37. Bobak registered a game-high 26 saves and Bylin notched 25 saves for Tufts.

The Bantams will be back on the ice when travel to Amherst College for a NESCAC game Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Tufts hosts Middlebury in NESCAC action Friday at 7:00 p.m.
