HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team completed a season-opening New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) series sweep with a 4-2 victory over Connecticut College on home ice on Saturday night. The Bantams had won 4-2 in the series opener the previous evening.
The Bantams struck first at 5:41 of the first period, as junior Jelani Adorno scored a one-touch power-play goal from just outside the neutral zone, assisted by Marta Mazzocchi. The lead doubled at 14:21 when senior captain Martina Exnerova redirected Annika Dyczkowski's shot perfectly into the Camels' net during another power play.
With just minutes remaining in the opening frame, Connecticut College responded. Lily Stern got the Camels on the board, slipping the puck past Bantams sophomore goalie Madeline Carter to make it 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Both teams found the back of the net in the second period. Connecticut College tied the game 2-2 just three minutes in when Ashley Engle scored the equalizer. However, Trinity regained the lead shortly after, as sophomore Marta Mazzocchi rewarded herself with a goal, following up on her earlier assist. The Bantams led 3-2 heading into the third period.
Graduate forward Jenny Guider sealed the victory for Trinity with a late goal in the third, tipping in a pass from Paige Kehoe below the net to make it 4-2.
The Bantams were effective on special teams, converting two of their four power-play opportunities (50%). Trinity also dominated the shot count, outshooting the Camels 27-15, and won the faceoff battle 36-21. Sophomore goalie Madeline Carter recorded a career-high 13 saves, while Connecticut College's Devon Galizio made 23 stops in the loss.
The Bantams will return to action at the Koeppel Community Sports Center on Tuesday, November 19, when they host Albertus Magnus College at 7:30 p.m.
