NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – For the second straight season, the sixth-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team won the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth, as the Bantams downed Husson University, 77-62, in the 2024 Championship Game at the Tripp Athletic Center Sunday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Eagles slide to 1-2 overall.

Juniors
Henry Vetter and
Drew Lazarre paced the Bantams offense with a game-high 17 points apiece. Vetter added two rebounds, while Lazarre recorded three rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist. Sophomore

Jarrel Okorougo grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while junior
Paul Jordan netted eight points off the bench. Lazarre was named Tournament Most Valuable Player and earned All-Tournament Team Honors along with Vetter.

Husson had three players with double-digit point totals, led by a team-high 14 points and six rebounds from graduate Scott Lewis. Graduate Jeremy Moronta and junior Gil Matondo each chipped in 10 points apiece.

The sides traded the lead eight times of the opening ten minutes of play as a pair of free throws from Dorion put the Bantams ahead, 14-13, with 11:11 on the clock. The Bantams began to take control of the game with a 13-2 run over the next three-plus minutes, featuring five-point efforts from Lazarre and Jordan, to build a 27-15 lead at the 7:32 mark. Trinity continued to control the scoreboard, using an 10-6, capped by a putback tip-in by Davis to set the score at 37-21 with just over three minutes left in the half. Lazarre added five points in the final minutes to hand Trinity a 42-25 lead heading into halftime.

Trinity opened the second half on a 10-5 run, paced by five points from Vetter over the first five minutes to build a 52-30 cushion. The sides exchanged buckets over the next four minutes as a pair of free throws from junior Trevor Macdonald maintained a 57-35 lead. The Eagles rallied with a 9-0 run to close the gap to 57-44 with 9:35 on the clock. Back-to-back layups from sophomore
Jared Berry helped rebuild a 63-44 lead. Husson refused to go away quietly, pulling off another 9-0 run to set the score at 63-53 with 5:24 to play. Vetter came up clutch down the stretch, netting nine points to keep the Eagles at bay en route to the 77-62 victory.

The Bantams dominated the Eagles on the glass, 41-23, controlled points in the paint, 24-18, and outscored the Husson bench, 22-18. Trinity converted 22-of-53 (41.5%) from the field, 7-of-25 (28%) from three-point range, and 26-of-29 (89.7%) from the foul line. Husson shot 20-of-53 (37.7%) from the floor, 8-of-27 (29.6%) from three-point, and 14-of-16 (87.5%) from the free throw stripe.

The Bantams will be back on the court when they travel to the University of Hartford (1-2) for a non-conference tilt Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
