Late Power Play Goal Lifts #8 Men's Ice Hockey Past Hamilton, 3-2

CLINTON, N.Y. – The eighth-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team took advantage of a late penalty to defeat host Hamilton College, 3-2, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Russell Sage Rink Sunday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 2-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in conference play, while the Continentals suffer their first loss, falling to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC.

With 4:41 remaining in the game, the Continentals were whistled for a holding penalty leading to a Bantams power play. Trinity racked up nine shots on the man-advantage, and with less than four minutes to play, Archer stopped back-to-back attempts from Korona and senior Richard Boysen, but a third shot from senior Alexander Mozian proved to be the game-winner, sending the Bantams to the 3-2 victory.

Hamilton struck first, capitalizing on a Bantams penalty less than five minutes into the game. With 29 seconds remaining in the power play, junior Alex Danis scored off a feed from sophomore Justin Biraben to put the Continentals up 1-0 with 13:55 left in the first period.

Nearly six minutes later, the Bantams returned the favor, delivering the equalizer on their own power play opportunity. First-year Ryan Panico retrieved a wide shot from sophomore Connor Sedlak and fired a shot on Hamilton goaltender senior Charlie Archer, which was stopped but first-year Ty Broad swooped in a knocked the rebound past Archer to even the score at 1-1.

Just over four minutes into the second period, Trinity grabbed a 2-1 lead as junior Chase McInnis beat Archer off a feed from classmate Spencer Korona. At the 11:31 mark in the third period, Hamilton knotted the game at 2-2 after sophomore Luke Tchor connected with junior Max Bulawka for the finish.

The Continentals outshot the Bantams, 36-25, and won faceoffs, 41-26, during the contest. Trinity junior goaltender Devon Bobak stopped  a game-high 34 shots, while Archer posted 26 saves in the loss.

The Bantams will be back on the ice when they travel to Plymouth State (5-2) for a non-conference battle Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Hamilton will participate at the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational from November 30-December 1.
