#5 Men's Basketball Defeats Regis, 78-55

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team stormed past visiting Regis College, 78-55, in a non-conference tilt at Oosting Gymnasium Tuesday night. The Bantams rise to 7-0 on the season, while the Pride slide to 4-3 overall.
 
Junior Henry Vetter led the Bantams with a season-high 26 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the field, with six assists, two rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Junior Jarrel Okorougo netted 13 points with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, while sophomore Tristan Davis tallied 11 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior Will Dorion added eight points and three assists, and junior Drew Lazarre chipped in six points, six rebounds and four assists.
 
Regis had three scorers in double figures, paced by 13 points, five rebounds and two assists from Russell Rau. Dan Grasso added 11 points off the bench, while Gehrig Brynda had 10 points with five rebounds. First-year Aamyr Sullivan dished out a game-high 11 assists with four rebounds and two points.
 
After falling behind 4-0 to the Bantams, Regis took their lone lead of the contest as Rau knocked down a three-pointer to put the Pride ahead 5-4 at the 16:20 mark. Trinity rattled off a 13-4 run over the next five minutes, featuring seven points from Vetter, to hand the Bantams a 17-9 lead. Trailing 21-10 with 10:03 remaining in the first half, the Pride mounted a comeback with an 8-1 run, capped by back-to-back triples from Brynda to close the gap to 22-21. Trinity responded behind an 11-0 run to regain a 35-21 lead with 3:33 on the clock. Regis trimmed the deficit to 40-29 heading into halftime.
 
The Bantams maintained their momentum in the second half, ripping off another 11-1 run, paced by six points from Okorougo to extend their advantage to 51-30. A three-point play from Dorion at the 15:17 mark put Trinity ahead 54-33, but the Pride executed an 18-8 run, powered by four three-pointers, to close the gap to 61-51 with 9:15 to play. The Bantams used nine unanswered points over the next four minutes to pull away for good, 70-51. Trinity added late buckets from Davis and Lazarre to wrap up the 78-55 victory.
 
The Bantams edged the Pride in rebounding column, 38-29, and in the paint, 52-12. The Regis bench outscored the Trinity bench, 22-14. The Bantams shot 32-of-67 (47.8%) from the floor, including 6-of-22 (27.3%) from three-point range, and 57.1% (8-of-14) from the foul line. The Pride converted 20-of-55 (36.4%) from the field, 11-of-33 (33.3%) from three-point, and 4-of-7 (57.1%) from the free throw stripe.
 
The Bantams will be back in action when they host Anna Maria College (1-6) in non-conference action Friday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m.
