HARTFORD, Conn. – The fourth-ranked Trinity College men's basketball team cruised to a dominant 93-51 victory over visiting Anna Maria College in a non-conference matchup at Oosting Gymnasium on Friday evening. The Bantams remain undefeated, improving to 8-0 on the season, while the AMCATS fall to 1-7 overall.
Sophomore
Jared Berry led the Bantams with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, adding three rebounds. Junior
Jarrel Okorougo contributed 11 points, nine rebounds, and one assist, while classmate
Drew Lazarre chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Senior
Will Dorion added six points, four assists, and three steals, and junior
Henry Vetter had eight points, two rebounds, one steal, and a team-high seven assists.
Anna Maria had three players reach double figures, led by
Ray Carter, who scored 11 points with three rebounds and two assists.
Gabe Armstead and
Jayden Dickerson both finished with 10 points, with Armstead adding eight rebounds and Dickerson contributing five boards.
The game began with Anna Maria keeping it close, as the Bantams held just a three-point lead five minutes in. However, Trinity's Okorougo sparked an 8-0 run with seven quick points, pushing the lead to double digits. The AMCATS responded, trimming the deficit back to three points at 11:18, following a three-pointer by Dickerson to make it 14-11.
From there, the Bantams went on a 30-8 run to close the first half, taking a commanding 44-19 lead into the break.
Anna Maria opened the second half with a brief 6-2 run, cutting the gap to 21 points. The AMCATS would get no closer than 20 points for the remainder of the game, as Trinity continued to assert its dominance, ultimately securing the 93-51 victory.
The Bantams dominated in nearly every statistical category, out-rebounding Anna Maria 45-29 and controlling the paint 32-18. Trinity's bench outscored the AMCATS' reserves, 54-19. The Bantams shot 35-of-72 (48.6%) from the field, including 14-of-34 (41.2%) from three-point range, and 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the free-throw line. The AMCATS shot 17-of-50 (34.0%) from the floor, 4-of-21 (19%) from beyond the arc, and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the free-throw line.
Trinity will return to the hardwood on
Monday, December 9, when they host the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays at 7:00 p.m.
