Late Run Lifts #9 Bantams Over Bobcats, 87-70

LEWISTON, Me. - #9 Men's Basketball turned a one point game into a 17 point game in the final 5 minutes of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game against Bates on Friday night. The Bantams closed out the game 87-70 landing them on a 22-1, 8-1 record, where the Bobcats sank 3-20, 0-9 in conference. 

Trinity kicked off the game with four three-pointers from Dorion Will, Dana Smith and Ben Callahan-Gold to grow a lead of 14-3, the largest lead of the half. Bates would slowly chip away at the deficit, turning it into a one point game after two successful possessions, 27-26. Just over a minute remaining in the first Callahan-Gold would knock down his third three of the half lifting the Bantams to a three-point lead heading into the break.

The Bobcats would snag the lead just a minute into the second, over the course of the next fifteen minutes the teams would stay neck-and-neck. Both teams tied up the score a total of seven times over the course of play, with multiple lead changes. After consecutive trey's from Callahan-Gold the Bantams started to make their climb back into the lead, 69-67. Trinity took off on an 11-0 run with five points cashed in from the charity stripe by Jarrel Okorougo. In the final two minutes the Bantams would close out another NESCAC battle with a victory of 87-70.

Senior Callahan-Gold recorded a game-high of 26 points, going 8-for-15 from three. Okorougo added 13 rebounds and nine points, along with Henry Vetter netting 12 points and handing out 5 assists. 

The Bantams dominated beyond the arc shooting 14-for-35 (40.0%) and went 15-for-20 (75.0%) from the charity stripe. Trinity added 30 points from the paint and cashed in 21 from the bench. Bates was out rebounded, 47-to-40, but was held afloat by 40 points from the bench and 28 within the paint.

The men will be back on the hardwood Saturday, Feb.10th at 3PM for their final NESCAC and regular season game of the season.
