MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The sixth-ranked Trinity College Men's Hockey team used a late goal to break a scoreless tie and defeated host Wesleyan University, 1-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Spurrier-Snyder Rink Friday night. The Bantams rise to 19-3-1 on the season, and 15-1-1 in conference action, while the Cardinals dip to 3-13-1 in the NESCAC and 5-17-1 overall.
After nearly 55 minutes of scoreless play, the Bantams potted the decisive goal as first-year Joseph Harney gathered a loose puck off the boards and ripped a shot from the point that beat Wesleyan senior goalie Erik Voloshin for his first collegiate goal, sending Trinity to the 1-0 victory.
The Bantams dominated the shot column, 41-17, while the Cardinals won the battle in the faceoff circle, 28-22. Trinity sophomore goaltender Devon Bobak posted 17 saves in his fourth shutout of the season, while Voloshin made a game-high 40 saves for Wesleyan.
The Bantams and Cardinals will return to the ice for their regular season finale at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday afternoon. Puck drops at 4:00 p.m.
