Adorno's Buzzer Beater Pushes #9 Bantams Past Cardinals on Senior Day, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – #9 Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey hosted the visiting Wesleyan University in Koeppel Center for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash where the Bantams clinched a 2-1 victory with just seconds remaining in NESCAC play. This win lifted Trinity 15-5-2, 8-5-2 overall and the Cardinals at 11-9-3, 6-7-2

Prior to puck drop the Bantams honored their five seniors Jenny Guider, Hannah Leclair, Corinne Bolding, Hannah Feinberg, and Anne Levia.

The game remained scoreless after the first period, Bantams powering the stat lines obtaining 10 shots on net, 4 team blocks and 8 saves from Hannah LeclairJenny Guider and Emma Robertson had two shots a piece on goal, leading Trinity on the ice. Both teams acquired two penalty minutes, neither coming up with a goal leaving the score knotted 0-0 heading into the second.

Wesleyan's Bridget Goeler-Slough would hit the back of the net in the second after collecting a rebound off of Leclair's pads to put the Cardinals on the board. With eleven minutes remaining in the period, Wesleyan led 1-0. A little over a minute later Jenny Guider would slap one past Wesleyan's Rei Halloren to lock the score 1-1 for the remaining time. 

Both teams would jack-up the aggressiveness and intensity on the ice tallying seven penalties in just the third period. Bantams outshot the Cardinals 16-to7, Guider ripped off three on the Cardinals net while Adorno added five. Both teams' goaltenders kept their nets clean, denying either team a goal. With a minute remaining it was looking like the game would make its way into overtime play. Just 14 seconds on the clock Trinity's Lillian Cassidy carried the puke out of trouble, setting the Bantams up for an offensive possession. With a perfectly placed pass from the circle by Marta Mazzocchi, sophomore Jelani Adorno was able to one time it right into the back of the Cardinals net to light the lamp with just three seconds remaining on the clock. The sophomore defenseman recorded her fourth goal of the season with a game winner lifting the Bantams to a 2-1 victory in NESCAC play.


Trinity was outshot by the Cardinals 37-22 on net, Leclair recorded 21 saves, Guider and Jelani both registered two blocks and ripped six shots each. 
 

The Bantams are on the road Saturday, Feb. 17th at Wesleyan to finish out their regular season, puck drop is at 3PM.
