HARTFORD, Conn. – #9 Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey were bested on the ice this afternoon by Williams in game two of their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) two game series, falling 2-1 for the final. The Bantams lowered their record 12-5-2, 5-5-2 in the season, while the Ephs rose to a 8-10-2, 5-7-1 record overall.
In the opening period the Bantams were outshot by the Ephs 10-to-9. Hannah Leclair kept the net clean with not a single shot slipping past her in the first 20 minutes of play. Lillian Cassidy led Trinity with two shots on net, with the rest of the shots spread out across the ice from the Bantams. Score was locked 0-0 after the first.
Williams' Chloe Noxon tipped the first goal in for the Ephs after Leclair found herself with her pads on the ice after an initial save, leaving the net unprotect. Following the Williams goal, Trinity began a two minute power play where they tried to even the score with four shots being denied by Ephs goaltender Erin Pye. The second period would come to a close, Williams leading 1-0.
In the first ten minutes of play in the third the Bantams would have eight shots blocked and five saved by the Ephs, Jelani Adorno fired off seven of them. Williams would add another goal to the board after a back handed shot from Leah Rubinshteyn at the 10:21 mark. Bantams' Paige Kehoe received a break away cross pass from Marta Mazzocchi to light the lamp bringing the deficit back to a one goal difference. In the remaining six minutes of play Trinity attempted to knot up the score but was unsuccessful on the ice, falling 2-1 to Williams finishing the series 1-1.
Trinity was outshot by the Ephs 35-27 on net, Leclair recorded 33 saves with 18 of them in the second period.
The Bantams are on the road Friday, Feb. 9th at Bowdoin for a two game NESCAC series, puck drop is at 7PM.
