NASHUA, N.H. – The Trinity College Women's Basketball team outscored host Rivier 48-25 in the second half en route to an 84-59 victory over the Raiders in non-conference action at the Muldoon Center Monday night. The Bantams rise to a 16-6 mark, while the Raiders drop to 7-15 overall.
Trailing 5-0 after the opening minutes of the first quarter, the Bantams rallied back as senior Reilly Campbell scored five straight points to close the gap to 10-9 with 3:24 on the clock. Rivier rebuilt a 15-9 lead with five points from Lyric Grumblatt, but Trinity used buckets from sophomores Lucy Dorion and Theresa Twardosky to make it 15-14 heading into the second quarter.
The Bantams took their first lead of the game, 20-18, on a pair of free throws from sophomore Samantha Slofkiss, but the Raiders responded with back-to-back treys to take a 24-20 lead. Trinity ripped off a 12-5 run over the next five minutes to possess a 32-29 advantage at the 1:10 mark. The Bantams held off the Raiders behind baskets from senior Emma Wax and Slofkiss to hold a 36-34 lead at the break.
Trinity opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run, featuring five points from Campbell, to extend their lead to 47-36 with 6:12 on the clock. Leading 53-45 at the 3:44 mark, the Bantams closed the period on a 7-2 run behind free throws from graduate Bria Fuller and a bucket from junior Indi DelRocco to pad the gap to 60-47 after three quarters.
First-year Olivia Vick netted the Bantams opening nine points of the fourth quarter as the lead expanded to 69-51 with 5:06 to play. Three-pointers from Vick ignited and capped a 15-8 run by Trinity to wrap up the 84-59 victory.
Campbell paced the Bantams offense with a team-high 20 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field, with six rebounds, two assists and a block. Vick netted 15 points off the bench, connecting on 3-of-6 from three-point range, with three steals, while Wax chipped in 10 points with a game-high nine rebounds.
Lyric Grumblatt led all scorers with a game-high 44 points, shooting 15-of-24 from the field and 6-of-10 from three-point, with six rebounds for the Raiders.
The Bantams outrebounded the Raiders, 37-26, and the Trinity bench outscored the Rivier bench, 35-0. The Bantams converted 33-of-71 (46.5%) from the field, including 6-of-19 (31.6%), and 12-of-13 (92.3%) from the foul line. Rivier shot 20-of-47 (42.6%) from the floor, 9-of-21 (42.9%) from three-point range, and 10-of-13 (76.9%) from the charity stripe.
The Bantams will return to the court when they host Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action Friday at 7:00 p.m.
