MONTCLAIR, N.J. — The Trinity College baseball team downed by Montclair State on the road in a doubleheader on Saturday, with a close 17-6 game loss in the first game and a 0-1 defeat in the second. The Bantams moved to 3-6 overall, while the Hawks improved to 11-1. Trinity continues their travels on the road for a non-conference meeting against United States Coast Guard Academy midweek on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in New London, Conn.
The Navy & Gold registered their first two runs in the fourth inning with a two run shot from Sean Meth, making it a 3-2 game. Montclair would grow their lead 12-2 after a nine run inning to close out the fourth.
The Hawks continued to grow their lead over the course of three innings with two runs in the fifth, one in the 6th and with the final addition of two more in the eighth.
As a final chance to close the 17-2 gap in the top of the ninth inning the Bantams would send in four runs with RBI's from Tyler Bernstein, Jack Matthews, and Dylan Schnitzer, finishing the game 17-6.
In game two, the Bantams had a more controlled defense against Montclair with Tyler Griffin on the mound registering four strikeouts, three walks, and four hits, surrendering the only run of the game in the bottom of the 7th. Trinity could not find success batting, as the Hawks held them at zero, closing the game 1-0 for the final.
