MEDFORD, Mass. - The Trinity College Bantams suffered a defeat in the NESCAC quarterfinals, falling 15-10 to Tufts University on Saturday afternoon. After a challenging first half where Trinity trailed 12-2, the team displayed resilience and mounted a comeback with an impressive 8-1 run in the second half.
Although the first half seemed quiet for the Bantams, several players stepped up, with sophomore Molly McGuckin notching her 45th and 46th goals of the season. McGuckin's impressive tally places her fourth in the NESCAC for goals scored, with 101 shots on goal, the second highest in the conference. Despite a balanced offensive effort, Trinity found themselves outshot 21 to 32 overall and 19 to 7 in the first half. However, the second half saw a resurgence, aided by five penalties against Tufts and fourteen turnovers by the Jumbos.
Seniors Quincy Connell and Caitlyn Buermann showcased their defensive prowess, each causing five turnovers during the game. Despite their efforts, Tufts held the edge in key statistics such as clears, draw controls, and ground balls, contributing to their victory.
With this loss, Trinity's hopes for the NESCAC tournament were dashed, but they remain in contention for an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament, consisting of forty-six teams.
