Trinity Women's Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision to Bowdoin

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss to the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup on Friday evening. With the defeat, Trinity falls to 6-5-0 on the season and 4-2-0 in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin improves to 11-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play.

Bowdoin struck first, taking a 1-0 lead just 4:47 into the game. After a misplayed puck in the Bantams' attacking zone, Bowdoin's Jane Carter seized the opportunity, quickly transitioning the puck to Ava Imposimato. Imposimato skated in alone on Trinity goaltender Madeline Carter, beating her for a one-on-one goal to give the Polar Bears the early advantage.

Trinity had several chances to respond, with Paige Kehoe and Jenny Guider both getting quality opportunities. However, Bowdoin's Sara Peterson stood tall in net, turning away the shots to preserve the 1-0 lead as the period came to a close.

The Bantams tied the game early in the second period when Gabriela Gross broke through Peterson's defense, scoring at 3:37 to make it 1-1. However, moments later, Trinity's Martina Exnerova was called for tripping, giving Bowdoin a power-play opportunity. The Polar Bears capitalized when Luna Lu found the back of the net, restoring Bowdoin's lead at 2-1.

Trinity responded with a strong push late in the second period, earning a power play and firing seven consecutive shots on Peterson. Despite the flurry of chances, the Bantams were unable to score and entered the third period still trailing 2-1.

The Bantams dominated the shot count in the third period, outshooting the Polar Bears 12-6, but were unable to find the equalizer. With just under two minutes remaining, Trinity was awarded another power-play opportunity and pulled Madeline Carter for an extra skater, creating a 6-on-4 advantage. At 19:32, Bowdoin was penalized again, leaving the Polar Bears down 6-on-3. Despite the advantage in skaters, Trinity couldn't capitalize, and Bowdoin held on to secure the 2-1 win in the first game of the two-game series.

Trinity outshot Bowdoin 28-23 in the contest and won the faceoff battle 25-24. Madeline Carter made 21 saves in net for the Bantams, while Peterson stopped 27 shots for Bowdoin.
