AMHERST, Mass. – The 12th-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball squad defeated host Amherst College, 66-54, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at LeFrak Gymnasium Friday night. The Bantams rise to 14-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Mammoths dip to 1-1 in the NESCAC and 10-5 on the season.

Trinity junior
Henry Vetter led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three-point range, with six rebounds and two assists. Junior
Jarrel Okorougo tallied 11 points, six rebounds and two assists, while sophomore
Jared Berry logged 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. Junior
Drew Lazarre recorded 10 points, a team-high seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Amherst was paced by the duo of C.J. Mitchell and Marc Garraud. Mitchell notched a team-high 15 points with six rebounds and two assists, while Garraud scored 14 points with two rebounds and two assists. Will Scherer grabbed a game-high nine rebounds with four points.

Knotted at 4-4 after the opening minutes, the Bantams created separation with a 14-6 run, fueled by six points from Vetter and four points from senior
Will Dorion, to hold an 18-10 lead midway through the first half. The Mammoths clawed back with a trio of three-pointers to 23-21 with 6:42 on the clock. The Bantams extended the lead to 30-23 on a bucket from Lazarre, but five straight points from Amherst set the score at 30-28 at the half.

Amherst kept pace with Trinity early in the second half, and then a three-pointer from Garraud gave the Mammoths a 36-35 lead with 13:37 to play. Tied 43-43, the Bantams began to pull away with an 11-0 run, powered by six points from Berry and five points from Okorougo, to capture a 54-43 advantage at the 6:24 mark. Vetter netted nine points down the stretch to seal the 66-54 victory.Â

The Bantams edged the Mammoths on the glass, 38-36, and held Amherst scoreless in the paint, 18-0. The Trinity reserves outscored the Amherst bench, 16-13. The Bantams shot 23-of-59 (39%) from the field, including 7-of-21 (33.3%) from beyond the arc, and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the foul line. Amherst connected on 14-of-48 (29.2%) from the floor, 8-of-28 (28.6%) from three-point and 18-of-23 (78.3%) from the free throw line.
