WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team defeated Williams College 1-0 in game two of their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) series. With the win, the Bantams improve to 8-6-0 overall and 6-2-0 in conference play, while the Ephs drop to 7-6-0 overall and 1-5-0 in NESCAC competition.
The first period saw a balanced exchange of shots, with both teams registering 8 shots on goal. Williams' goalie Amanda Lackman and Trinity's Madeline Carter both kept their nets intact, as the game entered the second period tied, 0-0.
Trinity ramped up the pressure in the second frame, firing 13 shots on Lackman, but the Ephs' netminder was up to the task. Meanwhile, Carter stood strong for the Bantams, stopping all 7 shots she faced from Williams to preserve the scoreless tie.
In the third period, at 15:43, Bantams graduate student Jenny Guider broke the deadlock, scoring the game's only goal and ending Lackman's bid for a shutout. Trinity continued to apply pressure with 12 shots on goal in the final frame, while Williams managed just five. Carter closed out the game with 20 saves, earning her third shutout of the season.
Trinity outshot Williams 34-20 and dominated in the faceoff circle, winning 35 of 53 draws. Williams held the edge in blocked shots, with 13 to Trinity's 12.
Next, the Bantams return home for a non-conference matchup against Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, January 21st. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM.
