#8 Bantams Bested by #9 Colonels, 5-2

MILTON, Mass. – The eighth-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team suffered a 5-2 defeat to ninth-ranked Curry College on the road this evening. With the loss, the Bantams drop to 6-2-1 on the season, while the Colonels improve to 10-3-0.

Curry took control early, scoring three times in the opening period. Nolan McDonough, Karim Gayfullin, and Eelis Laaksonen each found the back of the net to give the Colonels a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the second period.

Trinity responded quickly in the second period, with Alexander Mozian and Joseph Harney each firing shots on goal just a minute into the frame, but Curry goaltender Shane Soderwall turned both efforts away. Gayfullin extended the Colonels' lead to 4-0 with a goal 2:20 into the second. Despite several strong efforts, the Bantams remained scoreless through the second period.

Curry added a fifth goal early in the third period, increasing their lead to 5-0. However, Trinity managed to break the shutout at 8:55. Dane Carter scored after a sequence that started with a pass from behind the net by David Paluch, which was redirected by Jacob Wilson to Carter, who finished the play by slipping the puck past Soderwall to make it 5-1.

The Bantams were awarded a power-play opportunity at 12:20, and Mozian fired three consecutive shots on goal, all of which were turned aside by Soderwall. Then, on a short-handed breakaway, Gayfullin attempted to score his third goal of the night but hit the post. Following that, Mozian collected his own deflected shot and buried the power-play goal to pull Trinity within 5-2. Despite strong efforts, the Bantams couldn't close the gap, and Curry held on for the win.

Trinity outshot Curry 23-20 and won 37-32 in the faceoff circle. Bantams junior Devon Bobak recorded 15 saves, while Soderwall made 21 stops to secure the win for the Colonels.

The Bantams will stay on the road, next traveling to Babson College for a non-conference game against the Beavers on Saturday, January 4. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
