NEW LONDON, Conn. – The tenth-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit in the first period to capture a 5-3 victory over host Connecticut College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Dayton Arena Friday afternoon. The Bantams have won five games in a row to improve to 11-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in NESCAC play, while the Camels dip to 4-5 in conference and 6-8-1 on the season.
Â
Midway through the first period, the Camels struck first as Trinity junior goaltender
Devon Bobak denied a shot from junior Reid Shafer, but the rebound slid to sophomore Shane Zarcone, who tucked a shot past Bobak to make it a 1-0 game. Less than five minutes later, Zarcone potted his second of the game with backhander over Bobak's shoulder at the 3:33 mark.
Â
The Bantams netted three straight goals in the second period to take control, leading with sophomore
Joseph Harney putting back the rebound off a shot from junior
Chase McInnis less than two minutes into the frame. Â At the 17:45 mark, senior
Nicholas Siffringer lit the lamp off a feed from Harney to even the score at 2-2. Just over seven minutes into the period, sophomore
James Barbour connected with sophomore
Jakob Karpa for the finish to hand Trinity the 3-2 advantage. The Camels tied things at 3-3 with 3:49 on the clock as senior John Russo placed a rebounded shot under Bobak's blocker.
Â
Both Bobak and Camels first-year goalie Primo Baldassarre each made five saves early in the third to preserve the 3-3 scoreboard. With 12:25 remaining in the game, Baldassarre stopped a shot from Karpa, but first-year
Ryan Panico found the loose puck and placed a shot to the back of the cage to make it 4-3. Less than three minutes later, Trinity added an insurance goal as senior Rickard Boysen snipe a shot off the crossbar and past Baldassarre to send the bantams to the 5-3 victory.
Â
The Bantams dominated the shot column, 41-27, while the Camels won the battle in the face-off circle, 43-31. Bobak posted 24 saves for Trinity, while Baldassarre logged a game-high 36 saves for Conn College.
Â
The Bantams will look to maintain their win streak when they travel to Tufts (5-7-1, 3-5 NESCAC) for a conference tilt Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
