MEDFORD, Mass. – The tenth-ranked Trinity College men's ice hockey team was shut out, 2-0, by Tufts University on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bantams fall to 11-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in NESCAC play, while the Jumbos improve to 6-8-1 on the season and 4-6-0 in conference action.
After a tightly contested opening frame, Tufts broke the deadlock in the final minutes when Max Resnick scored the first goal of the game at 18:27, assisted by Tyler Sedlak. Despite the Bantams outshooting the Jumbos 11-9 in the opening period, Tufts led 1-0 as the teams headed into the second.
The Jumbos extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period, with Brendan Fennell scoring just 3:05 into the frame. Fennell's goal was assisted by Rory Andriole and Liam O'Hare. Trinity had two power-play opportunities later in the period but were unable to capitalize, leaving the score 2-0 as the teams headed into the third.
Tufts outshot Trinity 8-5 in the final period, Bantams goaltender Devon Bobak kept his net clean in the final frame. The game ended with a 2-0 victory for Tufts.
The Bantams will return to the ice next weekend for NESCAC play, facing the visiting Amherst College Mammoths on Jan. 31 and the Hamilton College Continentals on Feb. 1.
