#16 Men's Basketball Drubs Bridgewater State, 75-51

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The 16th-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team cruised to a 75-51 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State at the Tinsley Center Tuesday night. The Bantams improve to 16-3 on the season, while the Bears drop to 7-12 overall.
 
Trinity junior Jarrel Okorougo led all scorers with a game-high 18 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor, with eight rebounds and three steals. Junior Drew Lazarre posted his second double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds, 10 points, three assists, a block and a steal. Senior Sean Macarchuk netted 11 points, connecting on 3-of-5 from three-point, with two rebounds and a steal, while junior Henry Vetter dished out a game-high five assists with five rebounds, four points and two blocks. Senior Will Dorion, sophomore Paul Ippolito and first-year David Ayles added five points apiece in the win.
 
Bridgewater State was paced by sophomore Sam Sweeney with a team-high 15 points and two rebounds, while classmate Josh Campbell tallied nine points with four rebounds. Junior Dante Kikuba recorded a game-high five assists with four rebounds and two points, and senior TJ Williams notched eight points and three rebounds.
 
The sides came out of the gates slow as a three-pointer from Lazarre put Trinity ahead 9-5 with 14:21 on the clock. Five points from Sam Sweeney helped the Bears keep things close at 16-14. The Bantams executed a 16-2 over the next seven minutes, featuring six points from Okorougo, to pad the Trinity lead to 34-18 at the 4:04 mark. Okorougo added a late basket to put the Bantams on top, 36-24, at the break.
 
Lazarre opened the second half scoring with a triple, followed by buckets from Okorougo and junior Trevor MacDonald to make it a 45-29 game with 14:22 to play. Lazarre delivered a pair of layups, and then Ayles and Macarchuk buried shots from long distance to escort the Trinity lead to 60-39. The Bantams continued to attack with a 9-3 run, capped by a three-pointer from Ippolito to give Trinity their largest lead of the game, 69-43. Okorougo, Ippolito and senior Alex Douglas scored down the stretch to send the Bantams to the 75-51 victory.
 
Trinity controlled the glass, 46-36, and the paint, 40-10, while both benches chipped in 32 points each. The Bantams shot 30-of-67 (44.8%) from the field, including 7-of-24 (29.2%) from three-point, and 8-of-9 from the foul line. The Bears converted 18-of-60 (30%) of their field goal attempts, shooting 7-of-35 (20%) from three-point, and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the line.
 
The Bantams will be back on the hardwood when they host Connecticut College (11-8, 3-2 NESCAC) in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Oosting Gymnasium Friday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m.
