BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Trinity College women's soccer team narrowly fell to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, 1–0, on Saturday morning in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action. With the result, Bowdoin improves to 8–3–0 overall and 3–3–0 in league play, while the Bantams drop to 5–4–2 on the year and 1–4–1 in the conference.
What Happened:
- Trinity controlled the opening frame, outshooting Bowdoin 6–2. The Bantams generated several strong looks, with Ava Correnti, Emma Almoney, Sophia Simmons, and Jill Fisher each testing Bowdoin goalkeeper Charlotte Iannone, who turned away all four attempts to keep the game scoreless entering the second half.
- Senior Elena Lindonen opened the second period with an early chance less than a minute in, but Iannone once again came up with the save. Despite three consecutive corner kicks for Bowdoin shortly after, the Bantams' back line held firm to preserve the 0–0 draw.
- Sophomore Sara Rieger followed with back-to-back opportunities for Trinity midway through the half, but both were denied by Iannone.
- In the 60th minute, Bowdoin finally broke through when Mary Rainey converted off an assist from Jackie Shores to give the Polar Bears a 1–0 lead.
- Trinity continued to press in the closing minutes, firing four more shots in search of the equalizer. Alyssa Keane and Elsa Deutsch both forced saves, but the Bantams were unable to find the back of the net before the final whistle.
