HARTFORD, CONN. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer Team edged out the visiting Connecticut College Camels with a thrilling 4–3 victory in a NESCAC showdown on Tuesday evening under the lights. With the win, the Bantams improve to 6–5–2 (2–5–1 NESCAC), while the Camels fall to 5–7–1 (1–7 NESCAC).
How It Happened:
-
Just one minute into the match, senior captain Elena Lindonen gave the Bantams an early spark. After collecting a loose ball in the midfield, she surged past the Camel defense and launched a right-footed shot from just outside the 18-yard box. The ball bounced past the keeper and into the back of the net, putting Trinity up 1–0.
-
In the 13th minute, Elsa Deutsch doubled the lead. Addie Covey dribbled down the baseline, drawing two defenders before slotting a pass across the 6-yard box. Deutsch was perfectly positioned to tap it in, giving the Bantams a 2–0 advantage.
-
Connecticut College responded in the 17th minute during a corner kick. Claire Chace delivered the ball into the 6-yard box, where it was deflected around by Bantam defenders before being cleared to the top of the 18. There, Una McCorry fired a clean shot through the crowd and into the net, cutting the deficit to 2–1 heading into halftime.
-
Lindonen struck again in the 48th minute. After her initial shot was blocked, she recovered the rebound near the right side of the 18-yard box and fired a precise strike into the back-left corner, pushing Trinity's lead to 3–1.
-
The Camels continued to battle, capitalizing again on a corner kick. Chace earned her second assist of the match, sending in a well-placed ball that Ella Gazo finished with a powerful header off the crossbar and in, narrowing the gap to 3–2.
-
Refusing to let up, Trinity added what would become the game-winning goal with 15 minutes remaining. Emma Almoney broke away and delivered a clever backward pass to Iva Carton, who sent a low one-touch shot into the right side of the net to make it 4–2.
-
Connecticut College kept pressing, and in the final minutes, Lucy Hurlbut scored from outside the 18-yard box with a high shot to the center of the goal, bringing the Camels within one. Despite the late pressure, Trinity held on for the 4–3 win.
