Women's Soccer Blanks Eastern Connecticut State, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer team shut out visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Trinity Soccer Field Wednesday. The Bantams rise to 5-3-2 overall, while the Warriors dip to a 6-3-2 record.

What Happened:
  •   In the 37th minute of play, Ava Correnti played a deep ball to the corner, where Emma Almoney chased it down and delivered a one-timer cross to the front of the net, and Sara Rieger elevated for the header over the reach of ESCU keeper Kaeden Dublin to give the Bantams the 1-0 lead.
  • With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Rieger struck again as she took a feed from Emma Rose, created space from the defender and ripped a left-footed shot into the upper 90, pushing Trinity ahead 2-0 heading into halftime.
  • Trinity added an insurance goal in the 85th minute as Mallory Kerr lofted a pass to the middle of the field in the Warriors zone, where Sofia Simmons worked around a defender and launched a shot beyond the extension of Dublin to seal the 3-0 victory.

Inside the Numbers:
  •  The Bantams dominated the shot column, 21-3, during the contest.
  • Trinity earned more corner kicks, 7-2, while the Warriors drew more foul calls, 7-4.
  • Lily Bracken logged her seventh shutout of the season, matching the mark for fifth-most in a season in program history.
  • Dublin stopped a game-high seven shots for Eastern Connecticut State in the loss.

Thoughts from Coach Schroeder:
  • "It was a really good win, and we had three great goals. This was a really important game for us because it was our last non-conference game, and we needed to close out the non-conference season undefeated, which was a goal of ours. I think this game really helped us confidence-wise, since we've gone through a streak of games against nationally ranked teams. We tied Bowdoin last year and they are fighting for points just like us, and this will be a game that's important for both teams."

Up Next:
  • The Bantams will be back on the pitch when they travel to Bowdoin College for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) on Saturday, October 12 at 12:30 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine.
  • All-time, Trinity owns a 9-30-4 record against the Polar Bears, dating back to their first meeting in 1983.
  • The Bantams last win over Bowdoin came with a 2-0 victory during the 2018 season.
