HARTFORD, CONN. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team dropped its home opener to the visiting Connecticut College Camels, 4–3, on Friday evening after a late third-period goal. The Bantams open the season 0–1 overall and 0–1 in NESCAC play, while the Camels improve to 1–0 (1–0 NESCAC).
How It Happened
- Connecticut College struck early in the first period with back-to-back goals. Casey Chesner and Alana Burm assisted on each other's tallies, as Chesner opened the scoring before Burm doubled the Camels' lead on a power play.
- Georgia Bussey put the Bantams on the board midway through the second period, poking in a loose rebound after Lillian Cassidy's initial shot was stopped by Camel goalie Devon Galizio.
- With just 11 seconds left in the second frame, Conn College's Serena Seiple extended the lead to 3–1, sending Trinity into the final period trailing by two.
- The Bantams stormed out in the third with renewed energy. Cassidy Holm cut the deficit to one, redirecting a shot from Cassidy Yaun off a faceoff win. Her shot rang off the crossbar and down, bringing Trinity within 3–2.
- Momentum continued to build when Trinity earned a power-play opportunity at the 13-minute mark. Just 20 seconds into the advantage, the Camels took an additional penalty for bodychecking, giving the Bantams a 5-on-3. Trinity fired five shots—one saved by Galizio and the rest blocked—before finally capitalizing moments after the first Camel left the box. Still on a 5-on-4, with 20 seconds left in the power play, Ava Gosnell ripped a shot from just inside the attacking zone. The puck deflected off a Camel skater, popped into the air, and hit Galizio's outstretched glove before dropping behind her. Holm crashed the net and poked it home for the equalizer, tying the game 3–3 with just over four minutes to play.
- But the Camels responded quickly. With a little more than two minutes remaining, Olivia Montembeault sent in a shot that was saved by Trinity goaltender Madeline Carter. The rebound was one-touched by Burm and stopped again, but the puck bounced into the left faceoff circle, where Emma Peterson unleashed a slap shot that sailed over Carter's left shoulder for what proved to be the game-winner.
- Trinity pulled its goalie in the final minute to apply pressure but couldn't force overtime, falling 4–3 in the conference matchup.
