DANBURY, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Basketball overcame a first half deficit to defeat host Western Connecticut State University, 57-40, in a non-conference clash at Stephen Feldman Arena Saturday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 4-0 on the season, while the Wolves dip to 2-3 on the season.
What Happened:
- The Bantams grabbed a 7-2 lead to kick off the game behind buckets from Kiki Fossbender, Lucy Dorion and Melissa Whitmore.
- Trailing 9-2, the Wolves bounced back with a 11-2 run over the final six minutes of the quarter to take a 13-11 lead.
- Free throws from Dorion and Maya Carnes helped trim the deficit to 15-14, but WestConn responded with a 9-0 run to regain a 24-14 advantage. Trinity used layups from Marlo Simms and Carnes to set the score at 24-18 at the break.
- Trailing 27-20 with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter, the Bantams rally began with a 20-9 run, fueled by eight straight points from Simms, to harness a 40-36 advantage entering the final quarter.
- Whitmore took things over in the fourth for Trinity, pouring in eight straight points to escort the Bantams lead to 50-36 with four minutes to play.
- Trinity wrapped up the 57-40 victory with buckets from Dorion, Carnes and Fiona Neilon.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Bantams connected on 30.6% (22-of-72) from the floor, 3-of-25 (12%) from three-point, and 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the foul line.
- The Wolves shot 24.1% (14-of-58) from the field, including 27.3% (3-of-11) from three-point, and 81.8% (9-of-11) from the free throw stripe.
- Trinity dominated the rebounding column, 59-41, during the contest.

- Whitmore logged her second double-double of the season with a game-high 15 points and 11 rebounds.
- Simms posted her fourth straight double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Carnes registered career-highs in points (10) and rebounds (6).
- Samantha Slofkiss grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench.
- Cameron Froehlich led WestConn with a team-high nine points, while Sara Macary added eight points and Leana Heitmann had six points.
