HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat visiting University of Hartford, 70-50, in a non-conference, crosstown battle at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Monday night. The Bantams rise to 5-0 overall, while the Hawks fall to 2-3 on the season.
What Happened:
- Both offenses came out of the gates slow, with the Hawks holding a 6-1 advantage with 3:51 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Bantams closed the gap with buckets from Alex Carbonaro and Avery Marzo, but Hartford held a 15-13 lead behind five points from Ava Naszimento.
- Five points from Allie Shenloogian helped the Hawks extend their advantage to 23-16, but a seven-point spurt from Melissa Whitmore handed the Bantams their first lead, 28-27, with 3:49 left in the first half.
- Marzo netted seven straight points down the stretch to put Trinity ahead 35-30 at the break.
- The Bantams defense locked up the Hawks in the third quarter, limiting Hartford to eight points on 4-of-15 shooting, while Marzo netted seven points, and Lucy Dorion and Samantha Slofkiss added five points and four points, respectively, to push Trinity ahead 53-38.
- The Bantams maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter, paced by six points from Dorion and five points from Kiki Fossbender to secure the 70-50 victory.

- Fossbender tallied a career-high 14 points with five rebounds and two assists, while Maya Carnes dished out a career-high eight assists with a career-high five steals and four rebounds.
- Whitmore chipped in eight points, while Slofkiss grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
- Naszimento registered a game-high 20 points with nine rebounds and two blocks for Hartford, while Sheloogian added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.
