CANTON, Mass. – The Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team overcame a two-goal first period deficit to defeat seventh-ranked Curry College, 3-2, in a non-conference clash at the Canton Ice House Sunday night. The Bantams improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Colonels slide to a 5-2 record.
What Happened:
- Less than six minutes into the first period, the Colonels capitalized on the power play with a faceoff win in the Bantams zone, leading to a shot from the point by Shane Carr, which was re-directed in front by Karim Gayfullin to give Curry the 1-0 lead.
- With 2:09 remaining in the opening period, the Colonels added to their lead as Gage Dill dropped a pass for a trailing Manny Cabral, who snapped a shot over the shoulder of Trinity goaltender Devon Bobak to push the advantage to 2-0.
- The Bantams cut into the deficit as Brendan Dumas skated through the neutral zone, knifed between a pair of Curry defenders and found Culin Wilson in the slot for a quick wrister past Colonels goalie Cam Smith, making it 2-1 with 11:33 left in the second period.
- With 17:33 remaining and the Colonels on a powerplay, the Bantams evened the score as Aidan D'Urso pressured Smith on a puck behind the Curry goal, leading to a turnover and D'Urso spotting Ty Broad in front of the empty net to knot the score at 2-2.
- The decisive goal came in the 58th minute as Connor Sedlak looked to play to puck to the front of the net, where the Colonels defense knocked the puck down, but Dumas swooped in a knocked a one-timer past Smith to send Trinity to the 3-2 victory.
