HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey team scored in every period to defeat visiting Wesleyan University, 3-1, in their final regular-season NESCAC game. With the victory, the Bantams finish the regular season with a 10-12-1 overall record and a 7-8-1 mark in conference play, while the Cardinals drop to 8-15-1 overall and 3-12-1 in NESCAC action.
Trinity outshot Wesleyan 54-27 through the first two periods, with 28 of those shots landing on net. The Bantams struck first late in the opening frame, as Gabriella Gross pounced on a rebound off a Kate French shot to give Trinity a 1-0 lead at 14:32. The Bantams extended their advantage to 2-0 in the second period, with Martina Exnerova scoring a power-play goal at 14:50.
The third period began with an insurance goal from senior Betsy Winslow, who found the back of the net just 29 seconds after the opening faceoff to put Trinity up 3-0. The Bantams continued to pressure Wesleyan, firing 19 more shots on net in the remaining time. The Cardinals managed to break the shutout at 16:30, with Dylan Green scoring during a power play to make it 3-1.
Trinity finished with 47 shots on goal, while Wesleyan registered 15. Both teams converted on one of their power-play opportunities, with Trinity going 1-for-5 and Wesleyan 1-for-6. The Cardinals blocked 26 shots, while the Bantams tallied 19. In the faceoff circle, Trinity dominated with 34 wins compared to 20 for Wesleyan.
Sophomore goaltender Madeline Carter had a stellar performance, making 14 saves and posting a .933 save percentage.
With the win, Trinity secures the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. The Bantams will travel to Waterville, Maine, to face No. 3 seed Colby College in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 1st, with the puck dropping at 1:00 PM.
