ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team secured a 16-12 victory over #15 St. John Fisher University in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bantams improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 4-2 St. John Fisher, which advanced to the Men's Lacrosse Elite Eight last season, suffered its second loss of the year.
The first quarter was evenly matched, with both teams potting three goals. St. John Fisher jumped to a 3-1 lead with 2:37 remaining, with goals from JP Revitte, Ethan Kesselring, and Braeden McNeill. Trinity's Mike Harvey put the Bantams on the board at the 7:17 mark. With under a minute left in the quarter, Jake Connors and Jay Ottomanelli scored back-to-back goals to even the score at 3-3 heading into the second frame.
Trinity surged ahead in the second quarter, building a 6-4 lead after a three-goal run by Connors, Bo Page, and Ottomanelli. Page and Ottomanelli assisted on each other's goals in the sequence. However, St. John Fisher responded quickly, tying the game at 6-6 before halftime with an unassisted goal from Timmy Salit and a late tally from Brett Seaman, making it a 6-6 game entering the half. The Cardinals held a slight 20-18 advantage in shots in the first half. Trinity's goalkeeper Jordan Opdahl recorded six saves in the opening 30 minutes, while Cardinals' goalie Tyler Manning had four.
The Bantams took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 7-2 to establish a commanding 13-8 lead. Page and Harvey each scored twice in the frame, while Jon Krikorian played a key role, assisting on three goals and netting one himself. Ottomanelli also found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Krikorian. At 4:45, Page's second goal of the quarter came off a faceoff win by Hayden Shin. Bantams led 13-8 entering the final frame.
St. John Fisher attempted a comeback in the final quarter, scoring three consecutive goals within the first 10 minutes to cut the deficit to two. However, the Bantams responded with insurance goals from Page, Krikorian, and Connors to seal the 16-12 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Opdahl finished with 12 saves and a .500 save percentage. The Cardinals split time in goal, with Manning playing 51:12 and making four saves, while Jack Gullo stepped in for the final 8:48 and logged five saves.
Trinity continues its road trip with a matchup against the University of Scranton on Wednesday, January 19, at 1:00 PM.
