Trinity Men's Lacrosse Secures First Win Over Williams Since 2012

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team defeated Williams College, 13-9, in a NESCAC showdown on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bantams improve to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Ephs fall to 2-4 and 0-3 in the NESCAC.

The victory marks Trinity's first over Williams since the 2012 season, when the Bantams secured a 12-8 win.

Trinity's offense was firing on all cylinders, with seven different players finding the back of the net. Jay Ottomanelli led the charge with four goals and four ground balls. Junior Jake Connors and sophomores Bo Page and Collin Sullivan each tallied two goals, while Cam Elenteny, Duncan Rider, and Ethan Lung added one apiece. Page also contributed two assists, three ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Williams came out strong, outscoring Trinity 4-1 in the opening quarter. However, the Bantams responded with five goals in the second quarter, peppering the scoring across multiple players. Williams managed two goals in the period, sending both teams into halftime tied at 6-6.

Trinity continued its momentum in the third quarter, opening the scoring at 13:12 with a goal from Page off a Rory McAloon assist. Williams' Jesse Shapiro responded just two minutes later, knotting the game at 7-7. The Bantams then pulled ahead with back-to-back goals from Rider and Ottomanelli, establishing a 9-7 lead. Shapiro struck again late in the quarter, bringing the score to 9-8 entering the final frame.

In the fourth, Shapiro netted his sixth goal of the game to tie things up one last time. But Trinity dominated the closing minutes, rattling off four unanswered goals in the final eight minutes to seal the 13-9 victory.

Statistically, the Bantams held a slight edge in shots (45-44), while Williams had the advantage in ground balls (41-38) and faceoff wins (15-11). Trinity converted one of three man-up opportunities, while Williams went 0-for-3. The Bantams also excelled in clears, successfully completing 28 of 29, compared to Williams' 21 of 23.

In goal, Trinity's Jordan Opdahl was stellar, recording 21 saves with a .700 save percentage while allowing just nine goals. Williams' starting goalkeeper, Matt Wetmore, made 16 saves and allowed 12 goals before being relieved by Lewis Schrock for the final 1:36 of play.

The Bantams return to action on Wednesday, March 26, at 4:30 p.m. when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a non-conference matchup against Vassar College.
