Poughkeepsie, N.Y. — The No.17 Trinity College men's lacrosse team snapped a four-game skid in convincing fashion on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 9-4 non-conference victory over Vassar College. With the win, the Bantams improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Brewers fall to 4-4 overall.
Colin Sullivan and Ethan Cobb led the Bantam offense with two goals apiece, while Bo Page, Jake Connors, Cam Elenteny, Miles Harvey, and Jon Krikorian each added a goal. Senior goalie Jordan Opdahl, the reigning USA Lacrosse Division III Player of the Week, anchored the defense with 17 saves in another standout performance.
Defensively, Carter Barford paced Trinity with a game-high four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Rory McAloon collected six ground balls and forced two turnovers, while Theodore Sachs picked up five ground balls. Hayden Shin dominated at the faceoff X, winning 13-of-17 draws and securing four ground balls.
Vassar opened the game strong, netting three quick goals in the first four-and-a-half minutes to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Trinity responded with unassisted tallies from Connors and Page to close the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
The second quarter featured limited scoring. The Brewers extended their lead to 4-2 early in the period, but Sullivan and Elenteny answered for Trinity, evening the score at 4-4 heading into halftime.
The Bantams controlled the second half, outscoring Vassar 5-0 over the final two quarters. Trinity struck three times in the third period and added two more goals in the fourth to secure the win.
Trinity held a slight advantage in total shots (45-42), while Vassar edged the Bantams in shots on goal (21-20). Trinity dominated the faceoff circle, winning 13-of-17 draws, and collected 39 ground balls to Vassar's 29. The Brewers were a perfect 19-for-19 on clears, while Trinity finished 22-for-28.
The Bantams will return to Jessee/Miller Field on Saturday, Mar. 19th for a NESCAC showdown against #RV Bates College at 1PM.
