Bantams Split Twin Bill Against Babson

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against the visiting Babson College Beavers on Wednesday afternoon at the Trinity College Softball Field. With the split, the Bantams move to 8-15 on the season, while the Beavers improve to 15-8.

Game One: Babson 5, Trinity 0

Babson scored five runs over four innings in the opener. The Beavers got on the board in the first with a groundout to shortstop that brought in their first run. In the third, Maddy DeLong launched a two-run homer down the left field line. Later in the inning, a groundout to third led to a defensive miscue—Kennedy Rogers' throw home sailed high over catcher Bella Calagna, allowing another run to score and advancing the trailing runner to third. The inning ended on a flyout to Trinity's Abby Alper.

DeLong struck again in the fourth, doubling to right-center to bring home Babson's fifth and final run. Despite several attempts, Trinity couldn't crack the Beavers' defense and was held scoreless in the first game.

Annie Konieczka pitched for the Bantams, recording nine flyouts and 11 groundouts while allowing nine hits and five runs.

Game Two: Trinity 5, Babson 2

Babson once again struck early in game two, plating a run in the top of the first. Trinity responded in the bottom of the inning when Taylor Mikolajczak drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Erin Steed. Abby Alper followed with a single up the middle to score Bella Calagna, giving the Bantams their first lead of the day, 2-1.

The Beavers tied it up in the third with a single to center field and an error on the throw home that allowed Athena Hadjipana to score, knotting the game at 2-2.

Trinity reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Calagna singled up the middle to drive in Steed. In the sixth, Kennedy Rogers extended the Bantams' lead with a two-run homer over the left-center field fence, bringing in Alper and making it a 5-2 game.

Zofia Sargent tossed a complete game for Trinity, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks. She faced 31 batters, recording 10 flyouts and nine groundouts to secure the win.

Trinity returns to conference play on Friday, April 18, hosting Tufts University for a New England Small College Athletic Conference doubleheader. First pitches are scheduled for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
