MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Trinity College Men's Lacrosse team fell to host Middlebury College, 13-9, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Youngman Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams dip to 8-6 overall and 3-6 in the NESCAC, while the Panthers rise to 8-6 on the season and 6-3 in conference.
Miles Harvey and
Jay Ottomanelli sandwiched goals around a pair of tallies from Will Ford as the teams were knotted 2-2 at the 4:27 mark of the first quarter. Russell Thorndike and
Jake Connors exchanged goals to make it a 3-3 game heading into the second quarter.
Rory McAloon potted his first goal of the season to open the second quarter scoring, but the Panthers rattled off three straight goals to gain a 6-4 lead.
Bo Page and Harvey netted back-to-back goals to tie the game at 6-6, but Middlebury used a goal from Billy Curtis in the final ten seconds to give the Panthers a 7-6 edge at the break.
Curtis struck again to open the second half scoring, but a tally from
Colin Sullivan put the Bantams within a goal, 8-7. Middlebury pulled away with four goals over the next ten minutes of action, featuring a pair from Russell Thorndike to put the Panthers ahead 12-7 with 12:57 remaining in the game. Harvey and Page each added fourth quarter goals to close the gap to 12-9, but a final tally from Curtis set the final score at 13-9.
Harvey paced the Bantams offense with a team-high three points with three goals. Page, Ottomanelli and Connors logged two points each, while goalkeeper
Jordan Opdahl registered a game-high 21 saves.
Curtis recorded a game-high five points with three goals and two assists. Will Ford added three goals and an assist, while Patrick Jasmin dished out a game-high three assists for the Panthers. Middlebury goalkeeper Hayden Kern stopped seven shots in the win.
The Panthers outshot the Bantams, 51-40, won the groundball battle, 40-21, and had the edge in the faceoff circle, 16-11.
Trinity will be back in action when they host Amherst College in their regular season finale at Tunsil Muldoon Stadium on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
