No.15 Bantams Downed, 15-12 By No.12 Mammoths

HARTFORD, Conn. – The 15th-ranked Trinity College Women's Lacrosse team fell 15-12 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup against the No. 12 Amherst College Mammoths on Wednesday evening in Amherst, Mass. With the loss, the Bantams close the regular season with an overall record of 8–7 and 4–6 in the NESCAC, while the Mammoths improve to 11–4 overall and 6–4 in conference play.

Trinity was led by Sarah Marvin and Ivy Armentrout, who each recorded a hat trick. Kaeley Zito and Brooke Kurtz added two goals apiece, while Grace Denious and Kelsey Restivo each netted one. Restivo also dished out a team-high three assists. Defensively, Emily Ambrozy collected four ground balls and caused three turnovers.

In goal, Olivia Aguirre made six saves, finishing with a .286 save percentage.

First-year Ivy Armentrout opened the scoring at 11:32 in the first quarter off a feed from Restivo to give Trinity an early 1-0 lead. Amherst responded with the equalizer at 6:56, as Bridget Finley scored off an assist from Ella Shay. Finley struck again with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter to give Amherst a 2-1 advantage.

The second quarter featured a back-and-forth battle, with each team scoring three goals. Sophomore Sarah Marvin tied the game 2-2 with Trinity's second goal. The Bantams briefly pulled ahead 3-2 on a goal by Restivo at 9:39, assisted by Zito. Amherst answered with two goals—an unassisted effort by Clara Sosa and a player-up goal by Rachel Rogers—to reclaim the lead at 4-3.

Marvin tied it up once more, converting a free-position attempt for her 24th goal of the season. However, Finley completed her first-half hat trick in the final 19 seconds to give Amherst a 5-4 lead at the break.

Amherst pulled away in the final quarter, scoring three quick goals to stretch the lead to 14-8. Trinity battled back with a 3-0 run—featuring goals by Zito (free-position), Kurtz, and Denious—to cut the deficit to 14-11 with 2:42 left. Amherst added another goal before Zito scored her second of the night with 22 seconds remaining, closing the final margin at 15-12.

The Bantams will travel to Waterville, Me., on Saturday, April 26, for a NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinals showdown against the Colby College Mules.
