Bantams Push No. 1 Middlebury to Overtime in 1-0 Loss

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team battled top-ranked Middlebury College to a hard-fought 1-0 overtime loss in NESCAC play on Robin L. Sheppard Field Saturday morning. It marked the first time in program history that the Bantams and Panthers went to overtime. With the result, Middlebury improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Trinity moves to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

What Happened:

  • Senior goalkeeper Hayley Gable was outstanding in net for the Bantams, recording seven saves against the defending Division III national champions. She turned away two of five penalty corners to keep the game scoreless through regulation.

  • Trinity generated its first chance in the third quarter when sophomore forward Riley Harrington sent a shot wide. Harrington had another look early in overtime, three minutes into the 7-on-7 period, but her effort was blocked by a Panther defender.

  • Middlebury netted the game-winner at the 64:47 mark, as Addie Chandler scored off a feed from Claire McMichael.

  • Three green cards were issued during the contest—two to Trinity (Eva McKelvey in the second quarter and Harper Siemens in the third) and one to Middlebury's Megan Fuqua in the fourth.

Inside the Numbers:
