Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Decision to No. 5 Ephs

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team narrowly fell to the No. 5–ranked Williams College Ephs, 1–0, on Saturday morning in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup. With the result, Williams improves to 5–1 overall and 3–0 in league play, while the Bantams move to 2–3 on the year and 0–3 in the conference.

What Happened:

  • Senior goalkeeper Hayley Gable was outstanding in net for the Bantams, recording a season-high 10 saves, including four stops on six Williams penalty corners.
  • Trinity's first scoring chance came in the second quarter on a penalty corner, but Brooke Dibiase's initial attempt went wide. Moments later, Lindsay Rogers fired on goal, but Ephs goalkeeper Ellie Smith turned it away. Dibiase generated another look later in the quarter, denied again by Smith, before Riley Harrison pushed a shot wide.
  • Despite outshooting Williams 4–2 in the second frame, the Ephs broke through at the 25:14 mark when Kiki Higgins netted her sixth goal of the season for the eventual game-winner.
  • The Bantams looked for the equalizer early in the third, with sophomore Claire Griffith sending a shot just wide before Trinity earned back-to-back corners. On the second chance, Olivia Keating's attempt was stopped by a Williams defender.
  • The Ephs pushed for an insurance tally in the fourth, firing four shots on cage, but Gable stood tall to keep it a one-goal game.
  • One card was issued during the contest—a green to Williams' Sawyer Rowland in the second quarter at 17:51.
