Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Chris Kendrick

Women's Soccer Edged at #18 Williams, 2-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer team fell to host 18th-ranked Williams College, 2-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at Cole Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams sit at 4-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference, while the Ephs hold a 4-1 record with a 3-1 mark in the NESCAC.
 
What Happened:
  • The first half featured a scoreless defensive battle that limited the sides to five combined shots.
  • Less than three minutes into the second half, the Ephs cracked the scoredboard as Bria Abbiati scored off a feed from Elizabeth Stophel to give Williams the 1-0 lead.
  • First-year Maggie Hyder fired a trio of shots to try to even the score for Trinity, but came up empty.
  • Sophomore Lily Bracken registered five saves for the Bantams down the stretch to help keep Williams off the scoreboard.
  • Trinity looked to knot the game up late, but shots from first-year Addie Covey and senior Elena Lindonen were stopped by Williams keeper Margaret Huelin to preserve the shutout.
  • Williams added a late goal from Stophel with less than a minute to play as the Ephs grabbed the 2-0 win.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Ephs controlled the shot column, 21-6, during the contest.
  • Williams generated five corner kick opportunities to two corners from Trinity.
  • The Bantams were called for more fouls, 9-5.
  • Bracken recorded a game-high seven saves, while Huelin tallied two saves for Williams.

  • The Bantams will return to the pitch when they travel to 12th-ranked Wesleyan University for a NESCAC battle on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 p.m.
