HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team was outlasted, 4-2, by No. 6 Babson College in a non-conference matchup on Robin L. Sheppard Field Saturday afternoon. With the result, the Bantams fall to 2-5 on the year, while the Beavers improve to 8-1 overall.
What Happened:
-
Babson found the back of the cage in each quarter of the game. The Beavers struck first at the 5:58 mark when Charlotte Roe intercepted a Trinity pass and sent a through ball to Carolina DiGiovanni, who finished with an off-balance one-timer into the boards for a 1-0 lead.
-
Trinity answered in the second quarter, as senior Claire Griffith delivered a no-look through ball in the circle to first-year Lily Vincent, who turned quickly and flicked a shot past the Babson goalkeeper. The attempt deflected off a Beaver defender and into the cage, evening the score at 1-1 with just over five minutes remaining in the half.
-
The Beavers regained the lead off a penalty corner as Emma Smith blasted a straight-on drive from the top of the circle, assisted by inserter Grace Mullaney and stick-stopper Alex Micholetti.
-
Babson extended its lead to 3-1 in the third quarter, capitalizing on a Trinity turnover in the defensive end that led to a breakaway chance against goalkeeper Hayley Gable.
-
The Bantams pulled within one just before the close of the third frame when junior Fiona Murphy hammered home a one-touch strike from the top of the circle, making it 3-2 entering the fourth.
-
DiGiovanni secured the victory for Babson with her second tally of the game in the final two minutes, providing the Beavers a 4-2 cushion.
