#18 Women's Basketball Defeats Williams, 76-63

HARTFORD, Conn. – The 18th-ranked Trinity College Women's Basketball claimed a 76-63 victory over visiting Williams College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 11-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference, while the Ephs dip to 7-7 overall and 1-1 in the NESCAC.
 
What Happened:
  • Trailing 4-0 in the opening minutes, the Bantams grabbed the lead with a 12-5 run over the next four minutes, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Avery Marzo.
  • The Ephs knotted the score at 17-17 on four points from Logan Coster, but Trinty closed the period with six unanswered points, including four points from Kiki Fossbender to hold a 23-17 lead.
  • The Bantams padded their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Williams, 19-13, during the frame. Another triple from Marzo and a pair of buckets from Marlo Simms punctuated a 16-8 run to expanded the lead to 39-25. Trinity held a 42-30 lead at the break.
  • The Ephs worked at the deficit in the third quarter, utilizing a 12-7 run to trim the gap to 49-42 with 3:04 on the clock. Three points from Evelyn Walcott over the final minutes helped Williams set the score at 53-49 entering the fourth.
  • Buckets from Coster sandwiched a quick 6-0 spurt that saw Williams even the scoreboard at 55-55 with 7:18 to play. The Bantams responded with a 12-1 run over the next five minutes, paced by six points from Fossbender, to rebuild a 67-56 advantage. Marzo netted six points, including crucial free throws, to lock up the 76-63 victory.

  • The Bantams converted a season-high 51.8% (29-of-56) from the field, including a season-high 58.3% (7-of-12) from three-point range, and 84.6% (11-of-13) from the foul line.

  • Marzo netted 17 points, shooting 4-of-6 from three-point, with four rebounds and three assists.
  • Simms added 13 points with a team-high eight rebounds, while Maya Carnes and Lucy Dorion added seven points apiece.
  • Trinity had four scorers in double figures, led by 13 points and seven rebounds from Simms.
  • Fossbender tallied 12 points, three rebounds and two assists, Marzo added 10 points, two rebounds and two assists, while Carnes netted 10 points with three rebounds.
  • Williams had four scorers in double figures, paced by 12 points and nine rebounds from Kathleen Smith. Skylar Chui and Walcott tallied 12 points and five rebounds each, while Micah Walton added 11 points in the loss.
