A Flurry of Five Lifts Bantams Over Mules, 5-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – A five-goal outburst from five different Bantams powered the Trinity College men's ice hockey team to a 5–1 New England Small College Athletic Conference victory over visiting Colby College on Saturday afternoon. Trinity improves to 11–10–1 overall and 5–10–1 in league play, while the Mules fall to 9–11–2 (5–10–1 NESCAC).

How It Happened

  • Trinity struck first with a late tally in the opening period. Senior captain Spencer Korona finished a rebound off a blocked shot by Brendan Dumas, lifting the puck past Colby goaltender Cooper Rautenstrauch for the 1–0 lead. The Mules held a 20–15 edge in shots during the frame, but the Bantams carried the one-goal advantage into the intermission.
  • Colby answered while Trinity was on the power play, as Massimo Gentile netted a shorthanded goal at 8:50 of the second period to knot the game at 1–1. Later in the stanza, Jakob Karpa and Ian Spencer each generated quality chances, but Rautenstrauch kept the game even heading into the third.
  • The Bantams erupted in the final period to seize control. At 2:35, Connor Sedlak buried a power-play marker off a feed from Joseph Harney to restore the lead. Just over five minutes later, Dumas extended the advantage with another man-up goal, assisted by Harney and Ryan Panico.
  • Trinity made it 4–1 with under 10 minutes remaining when Brendan Kimball snapped a shot from the top of the left circle over Rautenstrauch's right shoulder and into the top corner. Ryan Friedman and James Barbour collected assists on the play.
  • Panico capped the scoring with the fifth and final goal of the afternoon, chipping home a slick pass from Dumas at the top of the crease.
  • Between the pipes, Devon Bobak was stellar, turning aside 30 shots for a .968 save percentage while allowing just one goal.
