Trinity Edges Middlebury in Shootout After 5-5 Tie

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Trinity College men's ice hockey team skated to a 5–5 tie with host Middlebury College before claiming a 1–0 shootout victory on Friday evening. The Bantams move to 9–9–1 overall and 3–9–1 in NESCAC play, while the Panthers stand at 11–6–3 on the season and 7–5–2 in the league.

  • The opening frame featured an evenly played pace, with both Trinity and Middlebury recording eight shots on goal. The Bantams generated a two-on-one opportunity when Connor Sedlak hustled to the crease and ripped a point-blank bid, but Andrew Heinze stood his ground to make the save.
  • At 7:07, Jack Fialkoff denied Panther forward Cole Semeniuk as he looked to put Middlebury on the board. With 6:48 left in the period, the visitors broke through on a go-ahead strike from Edward Moskowitz.
  • Trinity pulled even three minutes into the second period when senior Ryan Panico flipped a shot from the right side of the crease that ricocheted off Heinze's chest and into the net. Panico added his second of the night at 14:43 during an extra-attacker push, shifting to his right and lifting the puck over Heinze's shoulder for a 2–1 edge.
  • The Bantams kept the momentum, as Ryan Friedman (3:07) and Spencer Korona (1:32) stretched the lead to 4–1 with back-to-back goals in a span of 1:35.
  • Middlebury answered early in the third to make it 4–2, but Trinity responded six minutes later. Weston Turner found the left side of the cage to restore the three-goal cushion at 5–2.
  • The Panthers began their comeback with 8:34 remaining, when Reece Brednich buried a feed from Revy Mack inside the left post. At 14:28, Middlebury capitalized on the power play with a goal by Jack Silverman.
  • Middlebury pulled Heinze for the extra skater with 2:01 to play and needed just four seconds to find the equalizer, as Landon Brownlee netted the tying tally.
  • Neither team scored over the final 1:58 of regulation, sending the game to overtime.
  • Trinity held a 4–1 advantage in shots during the extra session, but Heinze and Bobak turned aside all five attempts to force a shootout.
  • After both goaltenders denied the opening bids in the best-of-three, Korona slipped the puck past the Middlebury netminder to give the Bantams the advantage. The Panthers were unable to convert on their final two chances, sealing a 1–0 shootout victory for Trinity.
